As
originally envisioned, the next generation
Infantryman would use the Objective
Individual Combat Weapon (OICW) XM29;
intended to selectively replace the
M16/M4 family of weapons. The XM29
rifle concept integrated a 25mm (compatible
with the Objective Crew Served Weapon)
airburst weapon system and 5.56mm
munitions. It was designed with a
full solution target acquisition
fire control system and would have
been a lethal component of the Land
Warrior and Objective Force Warrior
systems.
Omega was the training
Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead,
and a member of the systems engineering
and weapons IPTs. As such, Omega
provided:
